Skyline Exhibits Wins EDPA’S Eddie Award for Marketing Excellence In the Exhibit Industry

ST. PAUL (December 2013) — Skyline Exhibits has been named the winner of one of three Eddie Awards given by the Exhibit Designers and Producers Association (EDPA) for marketing excellence at the EDPA ACCESS event on December 5th, 2013 in Marco Island, Florida. Skyline won in the category of ‘Online or Multimedia’ for the global launch of its new product, Skyline WindScape™. “We are honored to be recognized by our industry peers within the EDPA for our successful Global Launch event,” said Skyline President Bill Dierberger. “The EDPA is a great organization so having its members validate our success makes me even more proud of our team.”

The Skyline Global Launch event was centered on a 30-minute simulcast of the WindScape™ product launch hosted at Skyline’s International Design Center on July 10, 2013, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Some of Skyline’s global dealer network hosted additional hybrid events simultaneously in 27 other locations around the world.

For attendees in locations without a live event, interested prospects could watch the entire event streaming online, with content created by Skyline just for virtual attendees before and after the main live event. There were 2,190 attendees who attended live or online.” Key aspects of this award-winning multimedia campaign included a series of wind-themed teaser videos, email invitations, a dedicated website, social media integration, and a live, streaming video feed seen around the world. “Skyline has recently been recognized for its product innovation by winning a 2012 Outstanding Corporate Innovator (OCI) Award and by being nominated for the 2014 Edison Awards,” said Dierberger. “This year, we won the Progress Minnesota Award and were named a Minnesota Business Manufacturer of the Year finalist. By winning the Eddie Award, Skyline has been acknowledged for its marketing excellence as well.” “The Skyline® WindScape™ Exhibit System is game-changing new technology, unlike anything else Skyline has ever introduced,” said Jon Althoff, Skyline Senior Director Global Marketing. “For a product unlike anything we’ve introduced before, it needed to be launched in a way unlike we’d ever done before. This Global Launch was that breakthrough marketing event, equal in its innovation to the product itself. The event’s success was secured by the efforts of many at Skyline, including showcasing the video and graphic talents of Skyline’s newly launched Creative Services Group, under Julie Heck’s leadership. But the Global Launch event itself could not have been pulled off without the diligence and teamwork of Mike Thimmesch (Director, Customer Engagement and Industry Relations) and Sofia Troutman (Segment Manager, Solutions).” The result? Skyline WindScape™ is already setting records within Skyline as the fastest adopted new product line in the company’s history. And that is saying something, since 27% of Skyline’s sales come from products that have been introduced in the past 5 years.

Buyer's Choice Award

Skyline Exhibits Wins Buyers Choice Award for New WindScape® Exhibit System

LAS VEGAS (March, 2014) — Skyline Exhibits, designer and producer of trade show exhibits, graphics and services, was honored with a Buyers Choice Award, which recognizes the best new products at EXHIBITOR Show, the biggest event in the trade show industry. The winning entry was Skyline’s revolutionary new product, the air-powered WindScape® Exhibit System.

To qualify for the New Product Showcase and inclusion in the Buyers Choice Award, exhibitors’ product must meet several criteria including market availability, product introduction dates and exclusive introduction at EXHIBITOR2014. The Buyers Choice Award winners are determined based on four judging criteria: design innovation, broad-based applications, addressing an industry need or issue, and does it enhance the job of the exhibit marketing professional. A panel of judges, including Certified Trade Show Marketer (CTSM) graduates, selected the winners. “Given our three years of development of a system that solved so many exhibitor pain points all in one product, we hoped that we would have a fair shot at winning the award,” stated Jon Althoff, Senior Director Global Marketing, Skyline Exhibits. “Our crack exhibit staff was continuously demonstrating WindScape in our booth and based on attendee reactions – and exceptionally large lead count – we knew this product was a hit.”

Proven Inflatable Technology
Skyline developed WindScape from technology proven durable in sporting and military applications. WindScape consists of an inflatable frame and pre-installed fabric graphic. Advantages include time and ease of set up along with extremely small packing. “A full 10-foot display goes from case to exhibit ready in less than seven minutes with the single push of a button,” stated Sofia Troutman, Segment Manager, Skyline Exhibits. “And it’s so compact the entire display along with inflation kit packs in a small carry-on case.” Skyline currently has 46 standard shapes ranging in size from a tabletop display to full conference rooms, 16′ tall towers and massive hanging structures. The ability to create custom shapes is also available.

Exhibit Design Award
Skyline was also honored for its exhibit design in EXHIBITOR Magazine’s first annual Portable/Modular Awards. Skyline’s design for client Milliken & Company won the Best Island Exhibit Over 600 Square Feet category. The exhibit featured another of Skyline’s recently released products, the backlit PictureCube® Exhibit System.

SKYLINE EXHIBITS & EXPAND AGREE TO CO-DISTRIBUTE NEW WINDSCAPE® EXHIBIT SYSTEM OUTSIDE OF U.S. & CANADA

ST. PAUL (June, 2014) – U.S. based Skyline Exhibits, a leading designer and producer of exhibits and graphics for trade shows and marketing events, has reached a distribution agreement with the global event display company Expand International AB, Stockholm – Sweden, to promote and distribute the new Skyline® WindScape® Exhibit System outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Skyline dealers in the U.S. and Canada will continue to distribute the new product exclusively in their respective countries. Throughout the rest of the world, the product will be distributed by Skyline’s global network of dealers along with the Expand network, which consists of customers in more than 60 countries.

“WindScape® launched nearly a year ago and market adoption has exceeded our high expectations,” stated Bill Dierberger, President, Skyline Exhibits. “We are excited to bring this new – and proven – technology to even more exhibitors around the world through the Expand network.” Both companies will continue to independently distribute their other products.

Revolutionary Exhibit Technology
Skyline® WindScape® is the world’s first air-powered exhibit system. Frames are inflated with the push of a single button rather than assembled like traditional exhibit systems. Customized, double-sided fabric graphics come pre-attached so installation is quick and easy. A 10-foot backwall display goes from case to exhibit ready in under 7 minutes, with no tools.

Skyline WindScape currently has 46 shapes ranging from a tabletop display and a variety of 10-foot backwalls to larger conference rooms and 16-foot diameter hanging structures.

Including the inflator, the tabletop model fits in a backpack, while a 10-foot backwall display fits in a carry-on case stowable in a plane’s overhead bin.

MINNESOTA MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR

SKYLINE EXHIBITS WINS MINNESOTA MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR, BEST IN CLASS: LARGE COMPANY

Designer and Producer of Trade Show Exhibit Systems Receives Award for Overall Excellence In the Manufacturing Industry

ST. PAUL (September, 2014)  – Minnesota Business magazine has named Skyline Exhibits the Gold winner for the Minnesota Manufacturer of the Year, Best in Class: Large Company. The award recognizes overall excellence in the manufacturing industry in Minnesota. Skyline, based in Eagan, was also a top three finalist in 2013.

Nominated companies were judged on significant achievements over the past few years, in new products or services, competitive improvements and successes.

Skyline’s recent achievements include winning several exhibit design awards, new product design awards, winning the 2012 Outstanding Corporate Innovator Award given by the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA), and realizing growth 2 ½ times that of the exhibit industry.

New products and services include the launch of several new exhibit systems including Envoy®, which has become Skyline’s most popular system, and the revolutionary WindScape®, the world’s first air powered exhibit system – and Skyline’s fastest-growing system. Both received industry awards for product design. Skyline also launched its new Creative Services Group (CSG), which offers creative content services like 3D animations, videos and promotions to its clients through a worldwide Dealer network.

“We are deeply honored to receive this award. To have won this award in Minnesota, the land of Fortune 500 companies, makes it all the more impressive,” said Bill Dierberger, President, Skyline Exhibits. “I am so happy for our people, especially Tim Brengman, our Vice President of Operations. His leadership in this endeavor has been evident. The secret to our success is really no secret at all: it’s our people. Skyline’s worldwide employees and dedicated dealer network collaborate every day to create award-winning exhibits through designing with our proprietary and innovative products. The best evidence of this is the fact that 30% of our sales today come from products that were invented within the last 5 years. When you have earned in excess of 100 patents during 34 years and continue to ship exhibits at an on-time rate of 99.8%, it’s no wonder we are excited about our future.”

SUMMARY: Skyline, a trade show exhibit manufacturer, managed to perfect the balance between secrecy and promotion in the launch of an industry-transforming product. The result?

CHALLENGE

Your engineers have invented a product they believe will transform the industry and they’ve toiled years to perfect it. Now it’s your turn. You have to attain marketplace feedback and launch the new product.

In the process, if any details about this game-changer are leaked to a viciously competitive marketplace, it could decimate the years of work and the millions of dollars in resources.

This scenario has the ingredients for a marketer’s worst nightmare. But Skyline, a trade show exhibit manufacturer, transformed it into a dream come true when it launched its Skyline WindScape product in July.

Within two days of the launch, dozens of orders arrived for units that sell for up to $6,000. Presently, Skyline has exceeded aggressive sales forecasts by 38%.

Skyline achieved an unprecedented launch for an industry-transforming product by listening carefully to its marketplace while walking the fine line between under- and over-sharing. In the months leading up to the launch, this balance could have been easily toppled and taken years of work down with it.

This case study outlines the three critical steps that helped Skyline successfully walk the fine line between product confidentiality and promotion.

The St. Paul company’s new offering gives events professionals a portable, all-in-one exhibit setup
Posted on 08/09/2013 – 5:00pm | From the Blog
Skyline Exhibits, a St. Paul-based manufacturer of trade show displays and portable exhibits, recently launched Skyline WindScape, an inflatable, portable, all-in-one display setup. The idea behind the offering is that exhibitors can manage their entire exhibition through one easy-to-transport container. The system comes in 46 different shapes, ranging from small overlays to 16-foot-tall towers, and takes minutes to set up. See the promotional video below to see how it works.

Last year, Skyline Exhibits was awarded the Product Development and Management Association’s Outstanding Corporate Innovator Award. Within the past five years, the company reports, its new products have grown from 12 to 24 percent of total sales. Founded in 1980, the company has more than 120 design centers in over 30 countries, about 300 employees, and a network of about a thousand independent dealers.

Trade show exhibits might be a niche market, but Jon Althoff, senior director of global marketing for Skyline Exhibits, likes to think of trade shows as the “original social media.” —Ali Lacey
